Before pursuing an academic career, I studied filmmaking, created video art, and worked in community television at Fundy Cable (Channel 10) in Saint John, New Brunswick.
In the summer of 1991, I completed the Young Filmmakers Workshop at The Workshops (now Maine Media: Workshops + College) in Rockport, Maine. I made the short film, Dead To The World, as my final project. Another short, My Dream, won Best Experimental Work at the Atlantic National Exhibition (Saint John) Video Contest in September 1991.
While working at Channel 10, I created, produced and directed a movie review program, The 7th Art. The show aired every week between February 1991 and August 1992, and was revived for another weekly run in 1994. I also co-hosted the 1994 series. In total, over 90 weekly episodes were produced. I also co-created Detective Dross, Channel 10’s first original drama series. I wrote and directed the pilot. Ultimately, only two episodes were produced and aired in 1993-94.
